Healthy Habits For Kids

By | June 22nd, 2018|Categories: Healthy Habits|

Children are the future, we all know that. But we the older generation have a responsibility to mould the children into the people that will bring out meaningful change. They are extremely susceptible to influence from parents and other parental authorities so it is imperative to teach them good habits that will keep them healthy and safe. Some things that kids learn during their childhood will stay them throughout their entire lifetimes.

  1. More Vegetables!

Some kids are picky eaters but that does not mean they don’t need nutrients. Help kids realize the nutritional value of the things they are eating. Since fruits and veggies come in all sorts of colours and shapes, you can use that to your advantage as well. Children are easily entertained after all.

  1. Never Skip Breakfast

We’ve all heard the adage of breakfast being the most important meal of the day and it is very much true. Countless studies prove that having breakfast in the morning significantly increases your energy and productivity throughout the day. It also helps in keeping you healthy and fit. Children are impressionable and by instilling in them the habit of eating breakfast every day early on, they are more likely to continue doing so when they become older.

  1. Playing Sports > Being a Couch Potato

Not all children like sports and they should never be forced into something they are not interested in. But encouraging children to be lazy and unproductive is not the answer. Figure out what the child is interested in and go do that. Any sort of physical activity is good and helps round out children in the long run as it teaches them important life lessons like teamwork and strategy.

  1. Drink more water, not soda

We all know that soda is bad for you and understand why but kids have a hard time understanding that. So make sure that you tell them how bad soda is and encourage them to drink more water. Soda has no nutritional value while water sustains our very own life.

  1. Become more sociable

To be an upstanding citizen, it is necessary that children are equipped with the tools needed to be successful. This includes the ability to talk to people and form connections easily. If kids are encouraged to make friends early and spend quality time with parents and family it will go a long way to boost their confidence and self-esteem in the future.

  1. Stay Positive

Children will get sad when things don’t go their way. It is important to teach them that losing is alright and trying again will fruit success. It is one of the most valuable tools we humans have in our arsenal-resilience.

Health Tips For The Elderly

By | June 22nd, 2018|Categories: Tips For The Elderly|

Once you cross the age group that identifies themselves as ‘young’ towards the next stage that puts you in the category of ‘senior or elderly’, you need to put in some additional effort and change a few things about your lifestyle that will help you remain healthy and active for a longer period of time rather than succumbing to a disease or two. In this article, we have listed out such health tips for the elderly.

1: Quit Smoking Or Excessive Drinking:

One of the biggest factors that contribute to an unhealthy lifestyle and lessened lifespan is chain smoking and excessive drinking. Hence, the first step you need to take to live a long, happy life is to quit the same for these are habits that can quickly kill you via lung and heart diseases as well as cancer. Smoking can also lead to erectile dysfunction and excessive wrinkling. Hence, put it the effort and use the resources needed to help you quit.

 2: Keep Active:

It is important to keep active as much as you and not let old age wear to down. If you end up confining yourself to your home or bed after crossing a certain age, you will end up being extremely dependent on others as well as very mentally upset. Any kind of exercise will improve energy, memory, repel depression and help you live alone for much longer. It will also help you maintain a healthy weight, hold your balance and prevent many illnesses that come with remaining stagnant and inactive.

3: Eat Well:

Eating healthy is something everyone must focus on, irrespective of your age. If you have omitted unhealthy fats, excessive meat content or sugars etc. right from a young age, this will prove exceptionally helpful in the long run as healthy eating will prevent many illnesses like obesity, high blood pressure, heart diseases etc. Make sure that you consume nutritious food in the right amounts to keep you fit and healthy for a long period of time.

4: Get Regular Checkups Done:

Seniors are often provided with free medical check-ups and clinical facilities, hence, be sure to make the most out of these. Regular check-ups will help you diagnose any potential disease at the earliest and quickly take measures for treatment. Further, make sure to visit your local dentist and ophthalmologist for better care of your teeth and eyesight as well.

5: Maintain A Social Life:

Getting old doesn’t mean you need to seclude yourself from society and focus on remaining safe and healthy at home. One of the biggest factors that contribute towards good mental health once you reach a certain age is to maintain good relationships and have a social life. Meeting friends, children and grandchildren will help the elderly remain positive and upbeat which in turn will contribute towards leading a healthy, happy life.
